US Authorities Take Hold Of COVID-19 Website, Owner Tried To Sell It For Bitcoin

The United States Department of Justice and Homeland Security detained coronaprevention.org after its owner purportedly attempted to sell the domain for BTC.

The United States authorities divulged that the anonymous owner of coronavirus.org attempted to sell the domain to an undercover agent working under the Criminal Investigations unit of the Department of Homeland Security. The authorities mentioned that they were planning to use the website for selling counterfeit coronavirus testing kits.

As per the warrant, the owner of coronaprevention.org listed the domain for sale on a forum that emphases on content associated to and populated by users interested in hacking and hijacking online accounts. This happened a day after the United States President announced a national emergency ascribable to the deadly virus.

Notably, when the undercover reached out to the owner of coronavirus.org, he purportedly charged five hundred USD payable in BTC for the domain, as per the report. Generally, such domain names are sold for around twenty USD, the report exposed.
