A significant and potentially suspicious Bitcoin (BTC) transfer has been detected on the blockchain, sparking speculation among experts.
Blockchain tracking service Whale Alert reported the transfer, noting that approximately $238,655,421 worth of 4,064 BTC was moved between two unknown wallets.
Pseudonymous on-chain investigator ZachXBT also flagged this activity, describing it as a “suspicious transfer.” This was followed by further transfers to various exchanges, bridges, and the privacy platform Railgun.
Recently, ZachXBT linked the $230 million loss from Indian cryptocurrency exchange WazirX to the North Korean hacking group Lazarus, solving a bounty initiated by the blockchain “de-anonymizing” platform Arkham.
However, on-chain analysts suggest that the recent transfer likely involves a different entity. They also noted that only a small portion of the transferred funds has been moved out of BTC so far, indicating no significant sell pressure on Bitcoin.
Blockchain security firm SlowMist commented on the transfer, suggesting that some of the funds might be linked to the cryptocurrency company Genesis Global.
