A recent photo of what appears to be former Alameda Research chief executive officer Caroline Ellison in a Manhattan coffee shop in New York is being circulated on Twitter.
Recently, a couple of pictures started making the rounds on Twitter, seeming to show Ellison ordering a coffee at the Ground Support Cafe in Manhattan.
A user mentioned,
“A user claims that they spotted Caroline Ellison at Ground Support Coffee on West Broad in SoHo Manhattan at 8:15 AM [UTC]. This would mean she is not in Hong Kong and is in NY not in custody.”
In response, a man going by Daniel Mentado (@dmentado) asserting to work at the cafe “confirmed” that it was Ellison, and that one of his staff members served her.
A couple of members of the community are astonished that Ellison is on the United States soil given the viable legal ramifications, while others have speculated that Ellison might be looking to cut a deal with authorities.
In the meantime, Sam Bankman-Fried has been on a media tour covering his side of events by repudiating any deliberate foul play and laying the responsibility on Alameda’s leadership.
Notably, Bankman-Fried tweeted a few hours after the assumed Ellison sighting that he plans to testify at a hearing held by the House Committee on Financial Services at some stage. Nevertheless, he does not intent to testify until he has “finished learning and reviewing what happened.”
