Facebook’s Libra Association Hires Former FinCEN Director As General Counsel

On 19th May, the Libra Association, which is the organization behind Facebook’s Libra stablecoin project, declared the appointment of Robert Werner as its general counsel. The latest development appears to be an ongoing approach to settle with the regulators.

Werner carries significant conversance with both the private and public sectors. He worked as the director for the Finance Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Apart from that, he managed both Goldman Sachs and HSBC’s enterprise executive for regulations and policy.

It is to be noted that Werner is also the founder and former Chief Executive Officer of GRH Consulting. He earlier worked as the director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control, and as senior counsel to The Under Secretary of The Treasury.

Werner mentioned,

“I have dedicated my career to combating financial crime and helping complex organizations achieve regulatory compliance, both in government and in the private sector.”

He added,

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Libra Association, as we work to transform the global payments landscape to empower billions of people. I look forward to meaningfully contributing to such an impactful project.”
