Over Hundred Million Russian Car Owners’ Data Sold For Bitcoin On Darknet

A database of one hundred and twenty-nine million Russian car owners is being sold on the darknet for just 0.3 BTC (worth around $2908, at the time of reporting).

Bitcoin continues to be vigorously used for illegal action. Unidentified hackers have stolen the data of over one hundred and twenty-nine million Russian car owners and exposed it on the darknet in exchange for virtual assets.

It is to be noted that the leaked information includes the addresses, full names, and other personal information belonging to millions of Russian car drivers, as per a 15th May report of the Russian news agency RBC.

Citing an original report by local publication Vedomosti, RBC’s report mentioned that the stolen info is being sold for cryptocurrency. The report further notes that the hackers also offered to purchase some “exclusive” data in exchange for 1.5 Bitcoins.

Digital currencies are being progressively used for unlawful activity on darknet. As per a blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, the volume of darknet markets’ cryptocurrency movements doubled in 2019 for the 1st time in the last 4 years.
