Popular Youtube Channel Gets Hacked, Doing Bitcoin Scam Using the Name of Coinbase CEO

A prevalent YouTube channel has been appropriated and is presently live-streaming a supposed AMA with Brian Armstrong, CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.

Nevertheless, the stream, which seems to have been running for more than 24 hours at the time of reporting, is a swindle, persuading observers to send Bitcoin BTC payments, with the promise of an illusive five thousand Bitcoin giveaway.

The YouTube con follows an analogous set-up to the well-known Twitter fraud, whereby a hoax account will be set up to impersonate a well-known cryptocurrency figure. Said figure has a hefty quantity of BTC, ETH, or any other major virtual currency to give away. The sitting targets are assured up to 10 times the sum in return, by sending some of their own digital assets to a given address.

Using the aforementioned con, the hackers have managed to hack into a well-known YouTube channel, TopTenz. Notably, the channel has over one and a half million subscribers. Presently, TopTenz has been rebranded as “CoinbasePRO English.”

Interestingly, the aforementioned channel has been live-streaming the Ask Me Anything using past tape of Brian Armstrong responding to viewers’ queries.
