Social media giant Twitter will be rolling out digital asset options to its tipping jar, permitting any user to pay through the platform.
In a recent blog post, Esther Crawford, the staff product manager at Twitter, mentioned that the digital asset tips feature would be available for all iOS users worldwide and the platform is planning to roll out options for Android in the imminent weeks. Interestingly, the virtual currency option will permit users to link third-party apps depending on their region, to their Twitter bios and individual Tweets to receive funds. These apps include Patreon, Cash App, Venmo, Chipper, GoFundMe, Bandcamp, Razorpay, PicPay, and Wealthsimple Cash.
Crawford mentioned,
“We want everyone on Twitter to have access to pathways to get paid. Digital currencies that encourage more people to participate in the economy and help people send each other money across borders and with as little friction as possible — help us get there.”
Apart from the linked services, Twitter tips are available to use through the Bitcoin Lightning Network, which sends payment using the Strike app, or by specifying a Bitcoin address directly on one’s profile. “Twitter takes no cut,” as per Crawford.
