Major music streaming platform Spotify is purportedly testing the option to include NFT galleries on musicians’ profiles. Should the trial be successful, the embedding of NFTs would serve to boost artist and fan experiences.
Recently, reports surfaced that Spotify is running a test for select users of the platform’s Android app in the United States. These users can see the non fungible token previews on the artists’ profiles. Presently, there are only 2 such artists, DJ and producer Steve Aoki and indie rock band The Wombats — both of which are known for their espousal of NFTs.
It’s not feasible to make direct purchases, but after reading about the NFT and seeing an amplified preview, the user can tap to be redirected to the OpenSea page where they can buy the item.
Musicians are actively exploring the non-fungible token market, which might be a vital source of revenue, especially at a time when international touring continues to be disrupted by coronavirus. Last year, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda became the 1st major-label artist to release a single as a non fungible token, and the Kings of Leon were the 1st ever band to release an entire album in the form of NFTs.
