Telegram App Founder Donates Bitcoins To Russian Charity Project

Pavel Durov, the Russian entrepreneur who is known for being the founder of the social networking site VK, and later the Telegram Messenger, donates ten Bitcoins to a charity project based out of Russia and backed by a local political activist.

Durov has ostensibly restarted his charity activity soon after pulling the plug on TON, the much-awaited blockchain project led by Telegram.

It is to be noted that Durov is known for his philanthropic work. Earlier, he donated around a million USD to Wikipedia. This time, he has donated ten BTC to a charity project in Russia. At the time of reporting, the donated digital assets are worth over ninety-five thousand USD.

The aforementioned donation aims to support a project backed by Yegor Zhukov, a local political activist. The donated cryptocurrency will be allegedly used to assist people going through financial problems because of COVID-19, together with dispensing free food packages. The politician’s team announced the development on Instagram recently.

Zhukov highlighted that Telegram and the crypto community essentially share similar aims. Articulating appreciation to the entrepreneur’s support, Zhukov mentioned,

“The main purpose of both crypto and Telegram is independence from the government. Thus, neither of the two should basically be regulated.”
