A Ukrainian hacker purloined data in administration databases and tried to sell it for digital assets. The hacker got trapped selling confidential data collected from Ukrainian central government databases.
Regarding the development, the Ukrainian Cyberpolice released a statement. As per the statement, the hacker broke into several internal databases of the country by compromising individual accounts of authorized staff.
The hacker supposedly used brute force methods to hack into numerous email addresses and social media accounts. Through this simple method, he seems to have found fifty government databases with the latest information.
Subsequent to that, he tried to sell the apprehended information on hacker forums in exchange for digital assets. The Ukrainian Cyberpolice did not divulge which currency was used.
As per the statement, the hacker told a probable client that the price was 6.5 rubles for one valid entry. Probably the client was positioned in Russia, as the official currency of Ukraine is the hryvnia.
Notably, the offender was charged with illegal sale and circulation of information with restricted access. Ukraine considers it as a crime with an all-out prison sentence of 5 years. Given the absence of high treachery charges, it appears that the stolen information was not unusually sensitive.
