As per the news website City A.M., an “insider” has confirmed that Amazon is “definitely” looking to start Bitcoin and digital asset payments by the end of the present year. Apart from that, the e-commerce giant could start its own token by next year.
The insider told the news website that the e-commerce giant has a plan that goes beyond their recently released Digital Currency and Blockchain Product Lead job. The source mentioned,
“This isn’t just going through the motions to set up cryptocurrency payment solutions at some point in the future – this is a full-on, well-discussed, integral part of the future mechanism of how Amazon will work.”
The insider further mentioned that the project has the backing from the “very top”, Amazon’s executive chairman and founder Jeff Bezos himself.
He added that the aforementioned project is “pretty much ready to roll” and will begin with BTC but will not be exclusive to it. As per him, Amazon executives are ostensibly keen to explore payments with other digital assets in the top ten by market capitalization. This 2nd phase would be launched once they had “established a fast and secure method of” virtual currency payments.
Notably, Amazon has not released any official statement on its purported digital asset project. Thus, anything stays as a speculation until official substantiation and should be taken with heed.
At press time, Bitcoin is changing hands at a price of $38593 with a gain of over 11% in the daily chart, as per coinmarketcap.
