Hackers promoting digital asset scams took over a number of high-profile Twitter accounts Wednesday. The affected accounts belong to Bill Gates, Kanye West, Elon Musk, and several other renowned names. Accounts related to Kanye West, Apple, Uber, and several other renowned figures were also hacked.
Notably, the source of the attack is still unknown. Nevertheless, the hackers attacked an extensive range of significant accounts with the con, which was intended to trick users into transferring their BTC holding to the address specified by hackers.
The attacks seemed to be synchronized, with analogous messages shared on several accounts. Elon Musk’s account mentioned,
“Me and my brother Bill Gates are returning the favor today! Stay safe out there!”
In an official statement, Twitter mentioned that it was alert about the security episode impacting Twitter accounts and said that the establishment was taking appropriate measures to fix it.
The fact that cyber criminals were able to compromise numerous Twitter accounts, including Biden and Obama’s, raises grave concerns around Twitter’s security and its capability to guard its users.
