Ethereum Upgrade Postponed, Several Ethereum Improvement Proposals Stay Unmerged

An upgrade of Ethereum 1.0 originally anticipated to unveil next month has now been postponed because of the requirement of additional modifications.

Around 2 weeks back, an Ethereum developer, Hudson Jameson mentioned,

“Things are coming together… By mid-next week we will have final specifications and decisions on 3 EIPs that may be going in. We are creating the first “ephemeral testnet” called YOLO.”

Nevertheless, in the latest dev call the target date of 26th May for the pre-testnet dubbed Yolo was postponed as several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) are still unmerged.

The pre-test environment is being developed for developers to sync diverse clients together, with the real testnet formerly targeted for next week which is undoubtedly now no longer the situation.

It seems that the developers planned just 6 weeks for the testnet to run in a pre-live environment prior to launching in the month of July if no bugs are found. However, since the pre-testnet has not become live yet, early autumn might be a probable estimate.

Notably, the aforementioned upgrade is needed for the Ethereum 2.0 phase zero launch. This is because it contains the BLS signatures upgrade required for the deposit contract on the present Proof of Work based blockchain.
