United States Authorities Seize Millions In Cryptocurrency Funds From ISIS

United States Justice Department declares a major appropriation of terrorist-bound virtual currencies in Washington, DC.

According to a recent announcement from the US Department of Justice, the authorities have detained millions of USD worth of digital assets from more than three hundred accounts.

A precise amount is not disclosed by the authorities. However, the announcement recognizes the operation as the biggest to target terrorist funding in virtual currencies.

As per Don Fort, Chief of Criminal Investigation, the IRS used its new cryptocurrency tracking competences to trace the aforementioned crypto funds. He said:

“IRS-CI’s ability to trace funds used by terrorist groups to their source and dismantle these radical group’s communication and financial networks directly prevents them from wreaking havoc throughout the world.”

Given that at least one of the images in the Department of Justice that featured a BTC wallet address of an ISIS affiliate has been in circulation in the government channels for over a year, the agencies involved have evidently established long-term capabilities to counter crypto related terrorist activities.
